John Farley |
I got a tweet from reporter Otis Taylor at The State with some news that I found a bit surprising:
otisatthestate: The @wis10 new chief meteorologist is John Farley who is coming from a station that covered San Francisco and San Jose. First day Oct. 27 (From: Twitter)
Otis confirmed to me that he sent the Tweet and said his story on the new hire would appear in the newspaper next week.
I have also confirmed the news through another source that Ken Aucoin, the meteorologist currently anchoring weather segments on the 5, 6, 7 and 11 PM newscasts, is out. Aucoin, who first joined WIS as chief meteorologist in 1999, left in 2007 to write books for children with his wife. Aucoin returned to WIS in 2009.
Waiting on official announcement from WIS but word on the street is that Aucoin wanted to stay.
I hate this.
ReplyDeleteIf it's not what Ken wants. I have enjoyed him back on WIS. What is going on over there!!!!!!!!!!!
WIS has really gotten rid of a great deal of it's best anchors and reports. Sad day!
ReplyDeleteFrom what I understand, it isn't the happiest place to work.
ReplyDeleteThat's truly a shame. Ken is a class act. He was a welcome additional to my television. The Columbia market continues to get shaken up, but most of the changes lately have been very poor.
ReplyDeleteI guess with the news stations business when you get used to a person here comes a new person. I know what these stations here needs to get it together.
ReplyDeleteIt is truely a sad day in broadcasting with all the changes that have taken place in the last year. I don't know where these stations are headed especially FOX. Ken is a class act and I hope they can work things out. You have to look at who are running these stations.
ReplyDeleteWIS is worthless! They used to have all professionals working there years ago. Now days, they get rid of everyone that even borders on being professional. It's no wonder that WLTX has caught up with them.
ReplyDeleteI happen to know Ken and his wife and he did not want to leave. He has been hanging on for many months awaiting WIS to come to it's senses. Such a pity that they did'nt. I have always watched WIS-tv, being a Columbia native. Now, I will find another station for my news as WIS does not seem to be a fair place to work and they don't appear to care about the wishes of the community. Please let them know what you think!
ReplyDeletewow Kara ad Ken I might have to switch to another channel
ReplyDeleteI used to watch John Farley when he was on NBC in San Jose/San Francisco and he is a first rate meteorologist and human being. This is a great hire for WIS.
ReplyDeleteWhat??? I like KEN. I guess i need to get the weather from another station now :(
ReplyDeleteThis is truely a thoughtless act. I remember the first time WIS "FIRED" Ken. I know he and his wife were very upset. These are good people who love their jobs. Ken has never wanted to leave WIS. Not the first time nor now.
ReplyDeleteI and many others will no longer watch WIS. Younger is not always better!
You need to listen to your viewers.
SHAME ON YOU WIS!!!!
Bottom line is: Ken got shafted! Nobody at WIS wants him to leave, and are not allowed to say anything about him getting fired apparently. After almost 10 year with WIS they are just going to throw him on the street with what was about a 2 week notice! Heads up WIS you are about to piss off A LOT of viewers...
ReplyDeleteIt was so refreshing to have a true weather provider like Ken, without all the drama and hysteria that WIS is known for in this community.
ReplyDeleteI hope that their ratings bottom out as a result. Like the old saying goes..what comes around goes around.
Ken deserves much better!!!!
John Farley is wonderful. I am so thrilled to hear that he will be on tv again! I watched him in CA and will watch him on the internet just to see his brilliant reporting. You will love him immediately!!
ReplyDeleteJohn Farley has got to be one of the best Meteorologist of our day and time. I live in the Bay Area in Northern California, and I enjoyed watching him when he was here. Mr. Farely has a smooth, honest, and reassuring tone of voice when He delivers his forecasts. I have planned succesfully for many events for my kids thanks to him. People really need to quit complaining. You just received a blessing from GOD. I agree....you will love him immediately...IF Not Sooner!
ReplyDeleteJohn was not only a good meteorologist but someone who also worked hard for the community. My kids went to school with John's kids and I was also a pin-point weather person for him for my neighborhood. He is a great guy/meteorologist with a super family and you are lucky to have him.
ReplyDeleteThe uproar I see here on this site is the same uproar we had when he left San Jose. Good Luck, John! Win them over.
